August 12th – USA

From Mark, our honorary member in the USA:

Hi Harry, I thought I should send you a couple of photos of a (sadly) typical Tri State Norton Owners unofficial club ride out featuring my ’62 Atlas mongrel, modern Triumph Thruxton with a Watsonian chair, ’73 850 Commando (with less than 6k original miles on it) and modern BMW. As you can see my Atlas has behaved itself away from home. If it was in my driveway it would be incontinent. Beautiful and backroads tide of about 150 miles.

I also have partially succumbed to my age and dodgy (fortunately left) knee. I too have a modern bike, a BMW F800GT. By today’s standards it’s not a “real” man’s bike, but I find it a very practical all arounder. I just rode it to Quebec City and it delivered me with no fuss. It was great on the back roads that we favored and had no problem cooking along at 80 mph on the interstate. My local club, The Tri-State Norton [Commando] Owner’s Club is putting on next years International [US & Canada] Owner’s Association national rally. Aside from everything else it will be interesting to see if the majority of my club members – who I have never seen on a running Norton – manage to bring one to the rally. Best regards

July 26th-28th – Morpeth

The NOC Rampart Rally took place at Morpeth with a variety of events. There were 4 organised runs on Saturday which were rain affected, culminating in most of the rally’s bikes congregated on Morpeth Market Square at 3pm. Our Alan (see photo) got interviewed by a local journalist as he took a fancy to Alan’s 350. Sunday saw the majority head up the road to the Alnwick Steam Railway where they are rebuilding the line down to Alnmouth – they have done 1.5 miles since we were last there in 2013. The third photo is in the centre of Morpeth and was a short cut over the River Wansbeck from the rally site into town – it was intrepidly conquered by our 3 attendees viz Harry, Alan C and Alan S.
